Case Studies
Following are three studies each profiling unique problems faced by three completely
different organizations. While each presented a different set of obstacles to
overcome, the results for each organization were met or exceeded.
It needs to be first acknowledged that there are many facets to each organization
and as such, the approach to each case is dependent upon clearly identifying the
uniqueness and the impact the work will have on each.
The cases described were each different at the highest levels:
- Case 1 represents a client
based outside of the US
- All destinations were in Europe and Asia
- Spare parts were sourced from the US and Europe
- Final delivery points were remote sites
- Next day delivery requirements were based on morning arrival
- Case 2 was a relatively
new company and there were not any established practices
- There also was not a great deal of transportation expertise
- The customer base was very diverse
- The shipments tended to be small
- Cost to the customer was a key element
- Case 3 involved an established
company with many years of doing business behind them
- There was no centralized focus in a company that had 5 major and unique operating
divisions
- The customer base was limited, but had difficult delivery needs
- The shipments were large and very expensive to transport
- There was an immediate need to relocate spare parts distribution
- There were international origins and destinations involved
In today's challenging business world, more companies are outsourcing non-core
business functions.
